”We cannot hate ourselves into a better country, a better world, a better life.”
As the wise ones have said…
The future depends on what you do today.
You may never know what results come of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no results.
If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.
I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is that they must change if they are to get better.
In these days of difficulty, we Americans everywhere must and shall choose the path of social justice…, the path of faith, the path of hope, and the path of love toward our fellow man.
When you tell us we cannot, you dare us to try. When you tell us you should not, you challenge us to question. When you insist we are weaker, less important, foolish, sinful or misinformed, you empower us to seek truth and speak it. You will not divide us with fear or lies and you will not sow your seeds of distrust in our midst. We will resist your call to hate and we will not cease from trying, questioning or seeking until you hear our truth. We will march to your door, stand on the steps and speak until you listen. We will not be silenced, shut down or shut out. When you finally hear and when you finally see, you will know that we are united and you will see that we are stronger than you in our solidarity. We are your equal in every way that matters to us.
What I see everywhere in the world are ordinary people willing to confront despair, power, and incalculable odds in order to restore some semblance of grace, justice, and beauty to this world.
In the end, it matters not that what you did was great or small or that you accomplished all that you tried to do. It matters only that you tried. Another may see your efforts and be emboldened to begin.
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together
